Six Weeks On: IPCT Update

Six Weeks On: IPCT Update
Six weeks after completing my two-week intermittent pneumatic compression therapy (IPCT) treatment, I’ve now been remeasured and further steps are being planned. As expected, my leg has shown some slight rebound in certain areas, while in others, it has remained the same or even reduced further. Considering how much my activity levels fluctuate, especially on very active days, I’m pleased with the current measurements. Still, I remain focused and determined to reduce the swelling even more.
The next step is to address the persistent swelling in my ankle. I’ve been measured for a Class 2 half-leg toe to knee garment which will be layered either over or under my existing Class 3 full-leg compression. This approach, called layering, allows for targeted compression on specific problem areas, like my ankle, to give it the extra pressure it needs.
In addition to this, I’ve been fitted for a new adjustable wrap to use at home on especially active or high-demand days. This wrap is black, velcro-based, and visually resembles a foot-to-knee support. The benefit of this tool is that it allows me to re-wrap and readjust throughout the day as my leg changes, providing a more responsive and adaptive compression.
The goal with this wrap is similar to the shaping process used during my wrapping treatment in April. By helping move fluid upwards into my thigh, I can then use self-massage (SLD) techniques to encourage drainage through the lymph gland in my upper leg. This should also help avoid any risk of the fluid getting trapped in my thigh which can cause a “doughnutting” effect just above the knee.
While it’s still a journey, I feel more equipped than ever to take on the next stage with better tools and more insight into how to support my leg, both physically and mentally.
